Our Story

& How We Help!

Meet the kids back in 2009 after ordering our gear. We began as Yaya Coffee. After reading our story you will understand why. We had to change our name because we discovered another company was using it, but we are still the same people & have the same heart!

the Story

Be the first to see what God is doing through Yaya Coffee (Now Beyond Beans & Leaves). This family owned and operated business had a desire to try something new. To venture out and roast some coffee! The idea of creating some of our own fabulous blends was only the bug that created some excitement in something the Lord had planned to make even bigger!
We started with a desire to roast and earn a little extra money with Eric out of work, but turned into something we never imagined! As the Lord connected us through a dear friend to a young man (Eyasu), doing ministry in Ethiopia, we soon had a desire to use a percentage of our sales to help out ministries there and in other third world countries.
We began to pray and I (Tonya) began to pray and journal. I prayed if the Lord desired for us to do this business He would provide the exact amount we would need to purchase the roaster, because we did NOT have the money. On November 25th, 2009 my Dad came for a visit, he asked me to grab his bag. He handed us an envelope inside the bag, and let me clarify, he did not know what we were praying for, nor did he know our need. The envelope contained the exact amount of money we were quoted for the roaster. Backstory…My Mom had passed away in 2004, he had an account with her that he wanted to split with my brother and I to help us out. I started to cry and told him to hold on. I ran upstairs, got my journal, and shared the entire story with him. He asked what the price of the roaster was, and when I showed him the journal and price, he got teary-eyed and said, “Well, I guess you’re buying a coffee roaster”. The biggest part of this business taking off was the Lord giving us His blessing, and He did. We just had to follow His lead and timing.
We chose the name “Yaya Coffee” because it is Eyasu’s nickname, and it just fit. We also thought it would be the kind of name that would beg the question, “Why Yaya Coffee?” Open door to share our story! Open door to share the Lord!
For every pound we sell, a portion goes back to help others in need. So many have been a part in our journey, we are grateful for each of you, and to be roasting beans still today, 16 years later. We have upgraded to a 2lb air roaster which helps carry the load a little better. Our hope is to bless many more as our now Beyond Beans & Leaves business takes off. We offer many different things, as you will see on our site. Even though we know you came for the beans!
Stay in touch via our Facebook page & here at our website to find out what we are doing next! Hoping to have an open house soon to share some of the blends produced by our family! Keep an eye out!

God bless, and enjoy the ride…The Yaya (now the Bean) Team

Giving Back to Countries Where the Beans Came From!

Our hearts have always been to give a portion of every sale back to third world countries, where the beans came from. It’s been what the Lord has put on our hearts all along. With each sale a portion has always gone to missions, and helping people in need. We have already given to dig water wells, help families starting small businesses in Africa, and orphanages. For every lb. of Yaya Coffee, now Beyond Beans & Leaves Coffee purchased, you can be confident it will go to help others!

We are extremely excited to share with you a very new ministry we are partnering with! Backstory…one of my dearest friends has a son, Steven, who took a year to venture out and live with those less fortunate. He spent time with different people groups in different countries, living alongside them, and helping them as he could. At some point in his journey he realized he wanted to make a difference in their lives, and chose to start Rooted. On Steven’s journey (read his story) not only did God bless others through him, but God blessed him with a beautiful wife, Gabby. Together these 2 have started Rooted Missions, and lived their lives being the hands and feet of Jesus.

God bless…The Bean Team
